Red Empress is one our favorite red teas. Its energy is grounding and energizing and reminds you of your own sovereignty. Red Empress is here to encourage and reassure you in creating the life you want. While drinking this tea you’ll know deep down that you have all it takes, no matter how challenging the mountain before you may be. This tea is great to drink leaves in a bowl style and a wonderful tea for beginning tea drinkers. If you use a sidehandle you might find her energy to go deeper, as well as her patience.

Red Empress belongs to the dian hong family, a variety of red tea from Yunnan province. This tea comes from Simao (Yunnan) and is made from young bud sprouts. Red Empress is sweet and nutty and has a long-lasting aftertaste.

Brewing tips:

This is a wonderful tea to drink leaves in a bowl style. When using a sidehandle, don’t let the tea steep for too long. Red Empress has a great patience which allows for a longer tea sit.

A must to keep on stock
Method:
Gong Fu Cha, 90 degrees C, 6 grams for 120 ml water. Short (5 to 15 secs) steeps, didn't taste

Smell:
Dry leaves smell of dark chocolate.
Hot leaves smell roasted with a hint of cherry.
Wet leaves smell roasted with a hint of citrus.
9/10

Taste:
Liquid initial mouthfeel, almost bitter aftertaste.
Sweet with tiny hints of orange and chocolate.

8/10

Looks:
Dry leaves look to be mainly gold, with hints of black. The first few steeps have a deep orange-ish colour. The leaves are whole, unbroken.

Final verdict:
8.25/10

Leaveswithhugs translation: Exceptionally tasteful tea. Quality leaves. Pretty dark brown leaves after brewing the tea. It is an easy tea to brew, and you won't overbrew it. It did 5 infusion with 3 grams of tea. Could be a good daily drinker.

My favourite tea
Red Empress was the tea I learned 'leaves in a bowl'-ceremony with, so she has a special place in my heart and is still a favorite. I drink her at least once a week and she manages to bring some light into my day time and time again.
